White Oaks
The
Living Room
The Living Room is full of exquisite pieces, including Mrs. Daniel's portrait, colonial furniture from Philadelphia, Chinese porcelain, and a painting by Thomas Gainsborough.

Sitting atop the fireplace is this portrait of Lady Impey, the wife of an imperial judge in India. Mrs. Daniel was led to purchase this piece as she was intent on buying a masterpiece. She believed she was buying artwork done by Thomas Gainsborough, an 18th century English artist, however upon her death in 1992, the fine arts committee falsely attributed the painting to be a fraud. In 2010, the case was reopened, and Gainsborough experts confirmed that the painting was indeed a work of Gainsborough.
