Claire: I have lived there for a little over a year and a half. It feels like a home on the side that I live on just because me that’s all my stuff from my house back in Waco, and it feels like a museum just because people go on tours there which is kind of weird. The stuff in the middle of the house, you just wouldn’t see that in the middle of a normal house I don’t think. My favorite room is one of the bedrooms upstairs, the one with two beds. It has the little lounge chair and on top of the beds there’s a little breakfast in bed tray thing. I just think it’s the cutest room.
Anne: Do you have any interests on account of the house?
Claire: I’ll go pick the blueberries with my dad whenever they are in season. That’s a lot of fun to do with him, and I’ll pick whatever else is in season. We have squash cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes , blackberries, raspberries.
When we first moved in, I opened one of the doors to the bedroom in the middle of the house and there was this doll hanging upside down in the closet and it was the creepiest thing ever and it terrified me. Then in my mom’s inauguration a lot of her friends from Waco came and stayed in our house so we would hide the doll in different places to scare people.
I think to Furman it shows my mom is committed to being here that she would live in the house that Furman provided and I just think that’s really cool that they do that and that they Daniel’s were willing to give it up because they loved Furman so much. To me, I just think it’s really cool that people value the house so much and things that are in it. I know there’s a house committee and they have to approve of any changes to the house and I just think that so cool that they don’t want the history of the house to change.
